With over 100 000 hours working experience in the Heavy Commercial Vehicle, Opencast Mining and the Road Freight Industries, Hugh set his career objectives to experience every possible area within these industries and is amply equipped to provide a wealth of experience to road transport and supply chain executives. Having personally experienced the many difficulties of managing fleets, he is dedicated to three major business principles: a) Economic Value Drivers (EVD) b) Vehicle Lifetime Value Realisation (LVR) c) Shareholder Value Performance (SVP)During his seven-year term as Technical Manager of the SA Road Freight Association, Hugh was closely involved with key industry players and statutory bodies in motivating amendments to the National Road Traffic Act and Regulations, following which he held the position of National Service Manager at a leading heavy commercial vehicle distributor for four years, while taking responsibility for over 1 200 ultra-heavy vehicles on full maintenance contracts.During Hugh's years of practical experience in the industry, he also specialised in providing Expert Evidence to Provincial Road Traffic Authorities and Civil Litigators.His latest achievement cumulated in the development of a sophisticated and highly-innovative road transport business strategy tool structured around his belief in road freight management excellence. He is of the opinion that the success of any enterprise is irrevocably integrated within the four principal business nodes of: Profit; Price; Performance and Sustainability, which he refers to as the "QUAD" Initiative.He also currently lectures at the University of Pretoria Continuing Education, Certificate in Fleet Management, presented by the Unit for Supply Chain Management Department of Business Management.
